SRINAGAR: Clashes between protesters and government forces erupted in various parts of valley after Friday prayers.
Clashes erupted in Plan area Bandipora after Friday prayers.
Reports said that youth clashed with police by hurling stones at them who resorted to aerial firing and tear gas shelling to disperse them.
Intense clashes also erupted in Sopore town of Baramulla district soon after people assembled outside Jamia Masjid Sopore.
Chanting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans, the protests were led by district president Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Abdul Ghani Bhat.
Locals said that amid anti-India and pro-freedom slogans forces appeared on the scene and fired tear smoke shells and pellets indiscriminately to disperse the protesters and tried to arrest Abdul Ghani Bhat.
However, people in large numbers pelted bricks and stones on forces and in response forces restored to tear gas shelling.
Over half a dozen people have been reported injured during the clashes.
Clashes were going on when reports last came in.
Meanwhile, reports of clashes were also received from Tral area of Pulwama district.
Witnesses said that intense clashes erupted between protesters and the forces near bus stand and Aabgar areas of Tral after Friday prayers.
Earlier a protest rally was taken out after Friday prayers towards bus stand Tral.
