SRINAGAR: In an apparent bid to enforce their writ, miscreants wearing masks barged into a Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch damaging the equipment there while as at least two private vehicles were set ablaze by masked men on Wednesday.
According to the reports, over half a dozen masked youth forced their entry into J&K Bank Unit at Natipora area of Srinagar yesterday afternoon and damaged the cash counter and other equipment apparently for disobeying the protest calendar issued by the Geelani-led conglomerate. “Besides damaging the cash counter, the masked youth broke many LCD screens of the computers,” a bank official said.
Before the matter could be brought into the notice of the police, the miscreants fled from the scene.
Station House Officer Police Station Sadar said that a manhunt has been launched to nab the miscreants. “An FIR vide number 182/2016 has been registered and investigation has been taken up,” he said.
Meanwhile, two passenger vehicles, both Scorpoio make, were set ablaze in Delina area of Baramulla district and Saderbal Hazratbal by unidentified youth wearing masks. Reports said that a Scorpio bearing registration number JK05: 1031 went up in flames after miscreants torched it. Early yesterday morning, a Scorpio bearing registration number: JK01W:36 was seen going up in flames in Srinagar’s Hazratbal area.
It was not immediately known whether the occupants of the vehicles suffered any injuries.
Meanwhile, mobsters smashed windowpanes of scores of score of private vehicles at Hajin Sonawari area of Bandipora district.
Two passenger Sumos were set ablaze when they were on their way to Srinagar from Kupwara Last Monday. Earlier, two auto rickshaws were set ablaze in Old Srinagar.
