New Delhi: President All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Asaduddin Owaisi Tuesday said that Muslim all over India will foil the sinister designs of Sangh Parivar and BJP to implement Uniform Civil Code in India. “There are 16 Directive Principles in the Indian Constitution. The principles that suit to the politics of Sangh Parivar and BJP are being imposed upon the Muslims. The zealots are interested in cow protection only. Why can’t they impose a blanket ban on liquor trade which is one of the Directive Principles of the Constitution,” Owaisi told Kashmir based news agency CNS adding that one cannot have a uniform civil code in a pluralistic and diverse country like India.
While dubbing the decision of the government as a move to turn India into a "Hindu Rashtra", Owaisi said that If the government is serious about the civil code, it should withdraw the tax rebate extended to Hindu Undivided Families in the next session of Parliament. Not only this, the government should also bring ‘framework agreement’ between Government of India and Naga Land into public domain," he said.
“There are 16 Directive Principles in our Constitution. One of them talks about total prohibition of liquor while another talking about equal pay for equal work. Why don’t BJP Government talk about it and have total prohibition on liquor throughout India because it’s also mentioned as Directive Principle,” he said. He said when election in a major state advances, divisive atmosphere is sought to be created deliberately and it is "cheap politics of BJP" aimed at polarization.
Responding to a question Owaisi said that both State and Central Government have miserably failed to restore normalcy in Kashmir Valley. He said Government of India has not only failed but has also sent a signal to the people of Valley that it doesn’t care for them. “It is the responsibility of Modi led Central Government and State led PDP-BJP government to take measures for restoration of normalcy in Kashmir. The sentiments and aspirations of people of Valley should be taken into account and a solution to the problem should be found at an earliest,” Owaisi adding that the silence of Modi Government has sent a wrong signal across Kashmir.
