Baramulla: During the massive crackdown in old town Baramulla all but 40 person were arrested while government forces including Army launched door to door search operations, reviving the memories of 90’s among people.
“Last time we witnessed such crackdown in 90’s. All male population was dragged out from the houses and door-to-door search operations were conducted to make arrests. We failed to understand why the crackdown was launched when not a single militant was present in the area,” the locals told news agency CNS adding that most of the people arrested are innocent.
Reports said that army, police and paramilitary CRPF launched one of the biggest crackdowns in the area at 3am.
At around 3 pm, forces lifted the siege around the area, they said.
“Most of the persons picked up by the forces during this unprecedented crackdown are innocent. They have not taken part in any stone-pelting protests in the area,” said a local.
He said forces launched house-to-house searches in the area.
Meanwhile, people pelted stones on the government forces when they cordoned off the Samboora village of Pampore town. Reports said that government forces conducted search operation in the area while protesters confronted them with stones. Reports said that government forces resorted to tear-smoke shelling during the operation.
