Srinagar: A new song voicing the plight of Kashmiris will soon be launched, promising to tug strongly at your heartstrings.
Pop sensation Umair Jaswal announced a ‘Kashmir theme anthem song’ that will be composed and released within 10 days. He said this at a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club, a media report said.
“The message we want to convey is not just for the Pakistani nation but for the whole world,” Jaswal has said.
“I’ve noticed ever since violence in the Indian-side of Kashmir escalated, our artists have been quiet about it. I’m a little disappointed in those colleagues of mine who are afraid to talk about it,” the singer added, saying the rising tensions between India and Pakistan are not just a political issue affecting two countries. “It is also a humanitarian issue.”
Jaswal thanked Umer Ahsan, the director at IQ Genius Media Production, for giving him the opportunity to be a part of the song.
Renowned artists such as Sabir Zafar (lyricist of the song), Abid Ali (actor, who will lend his voice for voiceover) and Waqar Ali (music director who will compose the song) will be working on the project.
“This anthem,” he said, “would not [only] be a Kashmir anthem, rather it would be an anthem for humanity. There’s no financial interest in it, and people are working on it on a voluntary basis,” he said.
Jaswal posted a status about the Kashmir issue on his Facebook page with the line ‘Free Kashmir’. He said he noticed that thousands ‘unliked’ his page, and most people who ‘unfollowed’ him were from India.
“It didn’t bother me though, except now I know the extent to which Indian media has gone and blinded its people on the issue,” the pop singer added.
While speaking to the media, Umer Ahsan said Indian armed forces have been violating human rights in Kashmir for several decades now. “It continues to humiliate Kahmiri people,” he said.
“India has practically converted occupied Kashmir into the biggest prison of the world,” Ahsan said, adding India had made lives of Christians, Sikhs and other minorities miserable.
A second press conference is on the cards before the song is officially launched, followed by another presser on its video release. (Agencies
