Anantnag: In yet another rifle snatching incident, suspected militants managed to snatch all but five rifles from a tower station room in South Kashmir on Sunday night.
An official said the militants attacked the guards posted at a Low Power Transmitter station of public service broadcaster Doordarshan in Dalvash village of Dooru area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Reports suggest that the weapon snatchers overpowered cops and and took five of their service rifles before escaping from the scene. The snatched weapons include 3 SLRs, one INSAS and a carbine.
Cops radioed the details to the senior officers and an alert was immediately sounded. The guard of the Low Power Transmission Station was reportedly replaced and made more secure.
Lately, there have been many attempts of rifle snatching from police and CRPF in South Kashmir.
Militants in south Kashmir have managed to snatch dozens of service rifles from the policemen guarding mostly minority pickets. Recently, unidentified militants snatched five service rifles from guards of a minority picket in Damhal Hanji Pora area of Kulgam district.
