SRINAGAR: Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM) Saturday condemned the government decision to stop senior leader Maulana Muhammad Abbas Ansari and party president Masroor Ansari from leading Muharram procession at Gulshanbagh, Madin Sahib and the arrest spree launched by police to foil the important Muharram processions calling it sheer interference in the religious rights of the people.
"People were prohibited from joining Alam Shareef procession on the very first day of big processions by imposing curfew, restrictions and curbs on their movement. Govt. is deliberately provoking people by night raids and arresting Shia youth. We also condemn stopping of chief religious personality Maulana Ansari from giving religious sermon on the occasion."
The spokesperson said that Kashmir has been converted into a police state where there is no religious freedom despite tall claims by govt about Muharram arrangements.
He said: “While divisive elements want to divide Muslims on sectarian terms, the present govt also wants to create differences among Muslims of the state but we should hold the rope of unity and defeat these elements."
Appealing for unity, he said that Maulana Ansari has urged people to hold all Muharram processions unitedly to foil any attempts aimed at creating discord among the Muslims in Kashmir.
Ansari has said that since the people in State are fighting for just cause for the last 7 decades, the valley represents Karbala in every aspect. So we appeal to all freedom loving people to follow in letter and spirit the joint program of resistance leadership for Moharram processions particularly for Youmi Ashura. Holding a joint and united program during holy month of Moharram will be a befitting reply to the enemies of the Ummah of Kashmir.
The spokesperson reminded that on 7th Muharram (Sunday, October, 09) Alam Shareef procession will be taken out from Androon Kathi Darwaza, Rainawari to Imambargah Hassanabad.
