NEW YORK: United Nations’ Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon was “saddened and moved” when the dossier, which included photographs of Kashmir victims, was shared with him.
This was stated by Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while talking to Pakistani newsmen in New York yesterday.
“When he (Nawaz) shared the dossier on the Indian brutalities in Occupied Kashmir with the UN Secretary General, he was moved by the victims’ photographs, and said the UN diplomats would see into it,” Radio Pakistanreported.
It may be noted that UN Secretary General has told Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that Pakistan and India should address their outstanding issues, including Kashmir, through “dialogue”.
Ban’s remarks came as Sharif handed over to him a dossier containing evidence of “human rights violations” by Indian forces in Kashmir.
Sharif said the world leaders understood Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue.
The premier, according to the report, said that he informed the leadership of the United States, China, Britain, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Turkey, and other countries about the prevailing “grave human rights situation in Occupied Kashmir, and they all tried to understand Pakistan’s position”.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi says UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has offered his good offices for mediation between Pakistan and India, the report said.
“UN Secretary General was saddened by seeing the photographs of the victims of the Indian brutalities in Occupied Kashmir,” she said in an interview with the radio.
“The international community has taken notice of the grave human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir, and in the next phase, the UN Security Council permanent members will be contacted for sharing the evidence on Kashmir with them,” she was quoted as saying in the interview.
Lodhi in another interview to Geo News said, “Moon was visibly shaken (when he saw pictures of maimed Kashmiris).”
Lodhi said she was present in the meeting of Moon and Sharif. “He was shocked.”
