Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference octogenarian Chairperson Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday said that “sincere” steps are needed to resolve the Kashmir issue while terming the issue as “bone of contention” between Pakistan and India.
He said that “under the garb” of Uri episode an euphoria of war like situation is being created by Indian media and their politicians.
“Their intention to bury the issue under carpet is evident and for this they are resorting to blame game against Pakistan,” Geelani said in statement.
Ridiculing the accusation campaign, Geelani said that they are denying the realities.
“Need of the hour is that India should shun their denial tactics and accept the disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir and start parleys for addressing the core issue of Jammu Kashmir, but it is very sad and disheartening that vitiating situation between two countries is increasing with every passing day,” the ailing Hurriyat patriarch said.
Commenting over the “unenthusiastic” approach of Indian authorities, the Hurriyat Conference chief said, “it is ridiculous and unwise to add fuel to already vitiated situation and God forbid if the war between the two flares up, the sub-continent can’t be saved from destruction and devastation.”
In his appeal to international community, he said that they owe an obligation and they can’t ignore their responsibilities as they are morally bound to help parties for lasting and meaningful solution of Kashmir issue.
“Kashmir is a recognized and internationally accorded issue and the parts pre-1947 including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit are part of its territory and the decision regarding its political destiny is yet to be decided,” he said.
He ridiculed the claims of Indian authorities and asked to “prove their authority and allow people to decide their political destiny if they are confident about their claim, we will accept the people’s verdict”.
“Kashmir issue is a sore between the two countries and people are facing uncertainty and bewilderment. International community has an important role,” said Geelani while commenting over the on-going UN session.
“They should come and intervene between the parties,” he while referring to South Sudan, Croatia, and East Timor. “These issues were solved by international community and same approach and modes operandi is needed to resolve Kashmir issue.”
Geelani expressed his satisfaction over the Supreme Court verdict and said, “we are striving for a just cause through peaceful means and no law on earth can denounce the peaceful struggle or deny the right to pursue the freedom movement. We are peace loving and despite all this face the tyranny and repression from state authorities. Instead of facing us on political turf, we are being caged.” “Resistance leaders and activists are being detained for years.”
Referring to “atrocities” being perpetrated in every nook and corner of the state, Geelani said, “forces are resorting to in-proportionate force against peaceful protestors, the sit-in protests are being disturbed and makeshift arrangements are being destroyed and set on fire.”
He condemned the authorities for registering the cases against religious clerics under sedition in Chenab valley and said that it is unbearable and we stand with our people and express our solidarity.
