SRINAGAR: Reacting to Home Minister Rajnath Singh statement that “Kashmir is an integral part of India”, Hurriyat (M) said that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally-accepted dispute since 1947.
“The proof of which lies in United Nations’ resolutions on it, promises made by the first Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru to Kashmiris, umpteen Indo-Pak accords and dialogue processes and the people's resistance struggle since the last 70 years,” said a spokesman.
Stressing that Government of India (GoI) should give up its “adamant stance, which is devoid of facts and ground realities”, the spokesman said it should instead become serious to find a peaceful and long-lasting solution to the vexed Kashmir issue and initiate steps for its resolution.
He said this would not only help in restoring peace in Kashmir but also create an environment for development and prosperity in entire South Asia.
Commenting on Rajnath Singh’s reference to the “oft repeated rhetoric” of "jamhooriyat, Insaniyat and Kashmiriyat’, the spokesman asked Singh if it was insaniyat (Humanity) under which GoI has “martyred 74 civilians, most of whom are children and teenagers, blinded more than 200 and injured more than 10000, civilians many among whom have been handicapped and maimed.”
The spokesman questioned whether “Mr. Singh was referring to Jhamooriyat (Democracy) under which his government has held Kashmiris hostage for the past two months and unleashed state repression of the worst form which would even put Nazis to shame.”
