Srinagar: After continuous house detention since July 8, after the killing of Burhan Wani that triggered massive uprising in valley, authorities have arrested Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and has been shifted to the sub-jail Cheshma Shahi.
Cheshma Shahi is a picturesque location under the lap of Zabarwan hills and Dal-Lake under its feet. A spokesman of Hurriyat said that the Mirwaiz called at around 6:30 pm last night and informed that he was being shifted from the Nigeen police station “to some unknown place about which he has not been informed.”
However, later at around 9 pm, a police party appeared at Mirwaiz house and asked his family to give his clothes. They were informed that he has been detained and lodged at sub jail cheshma shahi, added the spokesman.
Mirwaiz was arrested outside his house when he he broke his 49th day of house arrest to move towards Eidgah as part of the ‘Eidgah chalo’ call given by the joint resistance leadership. (PTK)
