Srinagar:The extra forces that New Delhi sent to tackle with the protesters across Kashmir Valley will be given a handsome allowance while cash starved State Government will bear all these expenses, highly places sources told news agency CNS.
Each CRPF Jawan already posted in Kashmir Valley is getting Rs 4500 per month as Risk Allowance while a CRPF Jawan who arrived in Valley on ‘special duty’ will get Rs 13,500 as Risk Allowance here. The importance of allowance benefits enjoyed by forces personnel in Valley can be gauged from this fact that recently Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) urged Home Minister Rajnath Singh to increase allowances given to jawans posted in Naxal areas and bring it on par with those deployed in Jammu and Kashmir. A presentation made by the CRPF to the minister described how despite far greater dangers in Naxal areas as compared to Jammu and Kashmir, those posted in the Valley get paid more.
“Whether it is peace or turmoil in Valley, you have to pay this risk allowance to forces personnel. Both the CRPF and local police are doing the same job while dealing with the protesters, however, a CRPF man gets Rs 4500 as risk allowance while the local police man is given Rs 75 per month. A Selection Grade Head Constable gets Rs 100 only. This is sheer injustice towards us,” said a cop wishing not to be named. “Besides Rs 4500, CRPF men on special duty here are given Rs 9000 extra.”
He added that Rs 3000 is given as Ration Money to CRPF personnel while local police is given only Rs 1000.
“It is not the solitary case where local police face discrimination at the hands of State Government but there are other cases as well,” the cop said.
He went on to say that more than 60 local policemen who died during different encounters were not provided any exgratia or pension simply because militants decamp with their service rifles while they died. “The families of these cops are waiting for years together while inquiry started to see the circumstances under which their rifles were snatched by militants never gets completed. These families suffer as they are not given pension benefits,” he said. (CNS)
