Srinagar: Paying tributes to Hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz and all the ‘martyrs’ of 2008 uprising on their eighth anniversary, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Wednesday called on people to march to Eidgah Srinagar for a rally being held their to mark the occasion.
“Kashmiris had been fighting for the fulfilment of their basic Right of Self Determination since 1931 and the resistance movement after going through different stages was at a sensitive and crucial phase of history that calls for showing steadfastness and unity”, Mirwaiz said in a statement here today.
Mirwaiz said, “the on-going resistance movement is in continuation of the movement from 1990 in general and 2008 and 2010 uprisings in particular during which the nation offered countless sacrifices of lives and properties and kept the movement alive for realising its just rights, specially right to self-determination despite witnessing oppression and suppression of the worst kind.”
Strongly condemning the government for bringing out lists of minor and teenage boys of Srinagar and other districts and bribing people with reward if they get them arrested as highly immoral and deplorable, Mirwaiz said, “this way authorities were playing havoc with the future of these innocent children and pitting Kashmiri against Kashmiri and further deteriorating the already hostile situation in Kashmir.”
Warning the government of avoiding “anti-people” tactics of cracking a whip on the unarmed and innocent children and youth of Kashmir, the APHC-m Chief said, “such deplorable tactics would not be able to break the will of the freedom-loving people and will yield government nothing.”
