SRINAGAR: The State Vigilance Commission has taken serious note of outside J&K State registered public transport vehicles plying in the state in an illegal and un-authorised manner against rules and directed the Commissioner Secretary Transport Department to take appropriate steps for checking the illegal entry of these commercial vehicles into the state and work out remedial measures for strict implementation.
The Commission issued these directions while proceeding on a complaint lodged by Sheikh Imran (Director Kehwah Wheels Pvt Ltd Pantha-chowk, Srinagar) regarding menace of illegal entry of commercial buses and taxis which are not registered in our state but operating in this state in violation of rules and without payment of taxes. The complainant further alleged these vehicles not only create traffic problems but also badly affect the business of local transporters particularly during tourism season.
The State Vigilance Commission has sought a report from the Transport Commissioner (Chairman State Transport Authority) in the light of these allegations, which prima facie reveal that a large number of passenger vehicles from outside the state are plying in our state illegally. The report further reveals that the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) is not enforcing the checks required.
The Commissioner Secretary Transport Department has been directed to ensure strict implementation of the laws and rules in this regard in a practical manner and submit compliance report about the proposed measures and means of implementing the suggested measures on ground to the Commission.
