Srinagar: Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday revealed that slain popular militant commander Burhan Wani spoke to him before his killing.
Speaking to a gathering of over 500 protestors outside his office-cum-residence at Hyderpora, the incarcerated Geelani said, Commander Burhan called me ahead of his martyrdom.
We are fighting on our front and we believe Hurriyat leaders too are committed to their job, Geelani quoted slain Burhan as having told him.
Asking people to be steadfast, Geelani while paying tributes to Burhan said, it was because of his honesty and commitment that Burhan achieved martyrdom and world is witness as how lakhs of people attended his funeral.
Geelani credited the current uprising to the martyrdom of Burhan. It was because of sacrifice of a 22 year old youth that Kashmir is up against India again, he said.
Appealing people to follow the protest program religiously, Geelani, who is under house detention since he returned from New Delhi earlier this year, said, we are fighting a big power but our commitment and sacrifices will defeat it.
On the occasion, Geelani impressed upon people to open and strengthen the Bait-ul-Maals. If we make system of Bait-ul-Maals a success, I swear that no Kashmiri will sleep empty stomach, he said addressing people at large.
He asked people to take care of those who work hand-to-mouth. It is a big and long struggle, he said, so it is responsibility of rich and affluent people to ensure distribution of essential items like ration evenly amongst those who are needy.
Geelani, who has been banned from moving out of his home, addressed people from one of the windows of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) office building. TeH was formed by Geelani in 2004 after an agreement with his parent organization, Jamaat-e-Islami J&K.
Hundreds of people had reached and gathered in a park adjacent to Geelanis home where they listened to the ailing octogenarian leader. It was second time in last three days that Geelani addressed public gatherings when Kashmir is under curfew
