Srinagar: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has taken serious note of the remarks made by Finance Minister, Dr Haseeb Drabus wife, Roohi Nazki who recently took to social media to express her outrage and angst over the situation in Kashmir.
Well placed source said the Chief Minister was anguished over irresponsible behavior of Roohi, whom she personally knows, for adding fuel to fire when Kashmir is on boil.
Sources said Mehbooba expressed displeasure that it was unwise on the part Drabus wife to have failed to realize the sensitivity of the matter when the government is leaving no stone unturned to restore law and order in the restive Valley, on boil since July 8, when Hizb commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed.
Sources said Mehbooba was told by her party colleagues that Roohi reacted irresponsibly and forgot the favors bestowed upon her and her entire family by the PDP.
Just two months ago, Chief Minister Mehboba Mufti personally inaugurated Roohis new venture, the Chai Jaai, a thematic tea-house on the iconic Bund here.
She (Roohi) should have realized that how generous Baji (Mehbooba) was towards her that she personally inaugurated her tea-house on the day when state was mourning martyrdom of two cops in south Kashmir… Does Chief Minister otherwise inaugurate such facilities? asked a PDP leader.
A top official in the Chief Ministers Secretariat said the matter has been formally picked up with Roohi Nazki. You take my words for sure that displeasure has been conveyed, the official told Kashmir Observer.
As killings of the civilian protesters continued in Kashmir, on July 23 Roohi asked Mehbooba to step down.
In the post, Drabu’s wife, a former Tata executive, said: “It is immoral, unethical, tragic and wrong. Whatever has been happening in Kashmir over the last 14 days is terribly wrong. The brutal killings of children, the criminal blinding and maiming of protesters, and the shameless suffocating of an entire population is wrong. It is wrong even if it has been happening over the last two decades or so. It is wrong even if there are ‘far too many agencies at work trying to keep Kashmir burning’. It is wrong no matter what excuse we are fed, day in and day out. It is wrong irrespective of who feeds us the excuses.”
Roohi, who returned to Srinagar to start Chai Jaai on the banks of Jhelum, had observed that it was shameful on the part of Mehboobas government to victimize people. “And it is wrong in the most fundamental, most shameful and the most damning way. For it is the children of Kashmir that are being killed on street corners, by the security forces of our country. Who pump pellets into their young bodies. It is in a democratic nation that a whole population is taken hostage for days on end, without basic amenities, without phones, without newspapers. And it is happening under the watch of a popularly elected government. Yet again!” Roohi posted on her Facebook page.
She said it was unacceptable on the part of the government and needs rectification. “What matters most is to keep the faith for our future generations. So that they can know the face of truth. Their truth. Our truth. They can do this. And they should,” read her post which was later on removed following media glare.
Despite repeated attempts Roohi could not be contacted for comments.
