Srinagar: Appealing for calm in Kashmir noted Oncologist, Dr Sameer Kaul has said as a proud Kashmiri not just a Pandit, he was distressed by consumption of his land and its people in the ongoing blood spill.
When my own children are pursuing their careers in Universities abroad, how can I accept the sad mass suicidal forays of other Kashmiri boys and girls in the bylanes and streets of Kashmir? he has said.
Incalculable responsibilities pertaining to future of Kashmir lie on your young shoulders, your eyes have to scan the horizon and your innocent smiles have to soothe your communities. For Gods sake do not give in to rage and cause irretrievable loss to your people, he was quoted as saying.
He said that he isnt refusing the right to get angry; after all it is a pure human emotion.
Asking to respond by nonviolent means and civil disobedience if you must, he said, I plead with the State Govt to immediately review its methodology of crowd control. Pellet guns have obviously caused unacceptable morbidity. Better pre-protest information, stronger water cannons, pepper sprays and continuous year round counselling and productive distractions are techniques worthy of consideration. Be apparently honest and admit to high grade administrative failure.
The former ruling PDP leader said if 8 deaths in 2008 were enough to invoke the ire of PDP leadership and withdraw support to Azad led coalition Govt and bring it down. Certainly now, morality, if any exists today, demands voluntary stepping down of the present ruling combine.
He said the last seventy years had seen Hurriyat earn the 25 percent separatist space to work within.
That left mainstream with 75 percent space to function within and provide basic minimum Governance to a people who are aligned through a specific article 370.
It wasn’t just a Stray Nehruvian dream but logic to assume that strengthening this instrument accession is and would be infinitely better strategy to win over and psychologically amalgamate this state.
I do not know how the Central Govt fell into this trap of obliterating this essential space and succumbing to infrequent attempts at abrogating this article. Well of course Sainik Colony, Pandit Resettlement, State Industrial Policy issues could have been handled infinitely more maturely, is something even your friends may dare to tell you.
