SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir government has snapped private mobile phone network across Kashmir.
At least 40 civilian killings were killed in valley since last Saturday following death of militant commander Burhan Wani last Friday evening in Kokernag area of South Kashmir. Wani along with his two associates was killed by forces on July 08, the third Eid-ul-Fitr.
Following mass out pouring in the funeral of Wani, government clamped down first on mobile internet and snapped mobile phone network in South Kashmir. However, on Thursday government ordered imposition of strict curfew across Kashmir on Friday and snapped mobile phone network run by private operators in Kashmir.
The Kashmir region has witnessed mayhem with over 2000 civilians being injured in bullet and pellet firing. Over 150 of the injured have been hit by pellets in their eyes. 30 of them have been severely injured and some of them have already loss eye sight.
At least eight districts of Kashmir will be under strict curfew on Friday as separatists have called for funeral prayers in absentia for the slain youth post congregational Friday prayers tomorrow.
At least seven telecommunication majors are operating in Jammu and Kashmir with Airtel leading the businesses. Union Government supported Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) was the first entrant in to J&K but lies behind all private mobile phone service giving companies in attracting customers.
Interestingly, the major customer base of BSNL is in government sector
