Srinagar: As Kashmir hospitals are swarmed by patients with pellet gun injuries, many of them facing the bleak prospect of losing their eyesight, and doctors unable to cope with the crisis, the state government has asked centre to rush in specialized surgeons from New Delhi.
Ironically, the use of pellet guns to quell the protests has been rampant during the past few days injuring hundreds of youth in their faces and other vital body parts.
Doctors attending to the injured have expressed their apprehension that scores of youth may have already been blinded by the pellets. The youngest victim has been a five-year-old child Zahra.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti spoke to the Union Health Minister, J P Nadda this morning requesting him to send a specialized team of doctors including retina surgeons to Kashmir to take care of the injured who have suffered ophthalmic and other traumas.We are expecting these specialized doctors to arrive here today and get down to the job immediately, a Health Department official said.
He said on the instructions of the Chief Minister, the Government is also facilitating shifting of any injured person outside the state, who needs super-specialized treatment, not available locally.
