SRINAGAR: There is no let up in protests, triggered by the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on Friday, in length and breadth of Kashmir. On day three, 7 more protesters, injured in police and CRPF action, succumbed to their wounds taking the death toll to 31. Meanwhile Kashmir Valley remained paralysed for the 3rd consecutive day, partly due to curfew and partly due to a protest strike.
Hospital sources in Srinagar said seven of the grievously injured persons succumbed to their injuries on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Rashid Kumhar of Damhal, Muneer Ahmad Pandit of Mohanpora Shopian, Shahid Gulzar of Zainapora Shopian, Feroz Mir of Begummilo Kulgam, Mushtaq Ahmad Dar of Ujroo, Dooru, Shahid Hamid Margay of Larnoo, Kokernag and Khursheed Ahmad Mir of Harwat, Kulgam.
According to sources, there were protests and clashes across Kashmir on Monday which also saw police and CRPF forces targeting protesters with live bullets, tear smoke shells and pellet guns. Official sources said that a total of 44 protesters were injured.
Residents of Zirpora, in Bejbehara said one Aamir Ahmad Latoo was shot at by CRPF at Zirpora and he is battling for his life in a Srinagar hospital. However police said: At Zirpora Bijbehara militants fired upon police and CRPF personnel deployed for law & order duties which resulted in injuries to three persons who have been hospitalized.
Official sources said that the protesters continued their attacks on police and other Govt installations today. The protesters set ablaze abandoned Police Post at Fruit Mandi Sopore, Police Post Lassipora, Police Post Achan and SOG camp at Littar Pulwama while Police Post at Langate and Kralpora besides Police Station Vilgam were heavily stoned by the irate mobs.
According to police, clashes between youth and Govt forces took place at Warpora, Langate, Kralgund, Hajin, Kaloosa, Trehgam, Kralpora, Prichoo, Sheeri, Khanpora, Fruitmandi Sopore, Popchan, Cement Bridge Baramulla, Yaripora in North Kashmir. Also, there were protests at Salamabad Uri near Line of Control. In Srinagar clashes were reported from Hyderpora, Baghat Barzulla, Tengpora and Rambagh all in uptown.
Sources said the clashes and protests also erupted at multiple places in curfew-bound south Kashmir districts of Shopian, Pulwama and Anantnag. The worst clashes took place at Sangam, Bijbehara, Villgam, Shopian, Imamsahib, Preng, Koil, Tahab, and Gagran. Out of 44 injured, 8 protesters sustained injuries at Vilgam and one of them is reported to be critical.
Police spokesman in a statement issued here said: A number of police establishments were also attacked by hooligans. The police and para military personnel deployed exhibited maximum restraint while dealing with the situation.

A policeman identified as Afroz Ahmad was also killed when according to officials he was pushed into River Jhelum along with a police vehicle at Sangam, Bijbehara yesterday.
