SRINAGAR (ONS) – A key meet of the Hurriyat (M) executive council is likely by next week to chalk out a strategy for its forthcoming Pakistan visit, sources said.
Top alliance leaders, who returned from New Delhi today, are also due to discuss their meeting with the Pak High Commissioner, Salman Bashir, during the latest trip.
Meanwhile, dissident leader Shabir Shah today said that a statement by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq regarding the Nov 6 executive council meeting was out of context of the deliberations.
I had advocated deferring the Pak visit until after elections in that country, and asked for the internal matters of our alliance to be sorted out first, Shah said today. In this background, it is erroneous to create an impression that I was in the know of the decision to visit Delhi (to meet the Pak envoy), he said.
Mirwaiz To Skip Djibouti Meet
Used to confabulating with world dignitaries at the choicest locales, the chairman of the Hurriyat (M), Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, has declined an invitation to attend an OIC meet in humble Djibouti close to war-torn regions in Africa.
According to reports, the Mirwaiz has conveyed his inability to attend the meet, citing previous engagements, in his reply to the OIC secretary general who had written for confirming his participation.
The Mirwaiz had earlier attended an OIC meet in glittering New York, but has decided to give the Horn of Africa republic a convenient go-by.
Djibouti is bordered by Eretria, Ethiopia and Somalia a region not conducive to the delicate constitutions of protected species.
