SRINAGAR: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr Sham Chaudhary today said that Government would soon review the status of flood restoration works in Batamaloo constituency.
The Minister was replying to a question raised by Mr Noor Muhammad Sheikh in which he raised the issue of plugging of 2014 floods damaged Bund in his constituency. Mr Chaudhary said that due to September 2014 floods, Hokersar-Narbal Bund was damaged at various places and the Government would review the works and issue orders for its early completion. The Minister said that he would do an on-spot inspection of the Bund and will immediately complete the repairs.
The Minister said that the matter has been referred to Forest department for raising and widening of Flood Channel Spill from Hokersar to Narbal. As soon as the permission is granted, the Department shall start the execution of the works, after project is approved by Centre.
The Minister said that the Department has already executed some raising/ strengthening works on the right side of the Flood Spill Channel at Khushipora and further improvement by way of re-sectioning, raising, strengthening is proposed during the current financial year under the Priority Work-Comprehensive Plan for Flood Management Works on Jhelum Phase-I costing Rs 399.29 crore from Shariefabad to Zainakote-Hokersar area.
