Srinagar: Law maker Engineer Rasheed Wednesday said that he would have never contested elections had he not been subjected to third degree torture by police in 2006 in Cargo and at other places and forced him to sell property to pay bribe to get released.
During his speech at Legislative Assembly, Rasheed stressed that if Pakistan, America and Russia can talk to Al-Qaida and Taliban, why cant Government of India talk to people like Burhan? Er Rasheed Challenged BJP to discuss every angle and aspect of Kashmir issue in the Assembly but added that since India has a very weak argument to defend its case in Kashmir, so it runs away from talks and has given police and army a free hand to kill and control Jammu and Kashmir at will.
We strongly believe J&K is a political issue and we dont want a communal solution but it is New Delhi that is forcing us to think on communal lines, as we are facing discrimination at all levels. May government explain why Masrat Alam is being slapped with a series of PSAs and why Khan Soporis residential house is not being freed from police control? May government answer if it had suspended 8 government employees on charges of sedition in Kupwara and now they have been reinstated thus proven beyond doubt that they were innocent. Why shouldnt government tender apology to those employees. Government has itself damaged its credibility by not punishing killers of Handwara, those of Gowhar Nazir of HMT or those of Abdul Gani Naikoo of Kapran. While in Jammu you released 22 criminals who had damaged state property within hours but in Kashmir you have been arresting relatives of militants in every nook and corner. It hardly makes a difference who rules the state, as we are not facing a law and order problem but a stiff resistance from the masses for resolution of Kashmir issue, Rasheed said.
We can feel the pain of families of policemen but why you keep mum when police and army kill innocents and get appreciation rather being punished. I was not only beaten in Assembly but from Baderwah to Rajouri and Delhi to Sunderbani you attacked me everywhere and even debarred me from attending social functions in Jammu region. Ironically, state government kept criminal silence when BJP leader and MLA Nowshera Ravinder Raina used words like Er Rasheed hay Pakistani or hum Pakistaniyon ko kaat kay rakh den gay. One cant even believe that those who are taking pledge to protect cows and dogs, talk of slaughtering humans and still go unpunished and unnoticed. Even his serious allegations against ASP Rakesh and J&K Police went unnoticed but when it comes to Kashmiris, police didnt take even a second to lodge an FIR against me over my remarks to a miscreant in Pulwama.
Er Rasheed questioned why didnt Home Secretary visited Handwara even once during or after the episode and preferred to sign dossiers against innocent youth and dictate terms from Secretariat.
Er Rasheed added, Why should only Parihar, a senior police officer be jailed if there are dozens of Parihars roaming free and nobody cares and instead are being rewarded with promotions and privileges. Why should it those who forced me to sell my land and other property in 2006, be also jailed?
Er Rasheed added that since J&K is a disputed territory as such he like every Kashmiri, doesnt expect any justice from Indian state.
Er Rasheed was interrupted frequently by BJP and other members for seeking plebiscite and calling J&K a disputed territory. But Er Rasheed used the words Mujay kaat dho, mujay maar dho, mujay jail bhej dho ya mujay Pakistan bhejo mein fir b yehi kahon ga ki J&K Hindustan ka hissa nahi hay or na Pakistan ki shah rag hay. Er Rasheed alleged that GOI has just consumed time in talks to dilute the issue and alleged that GOI has lied from UN to Tashkant, Shimla to Agra and everywhere. (CNS)
