SRINAGAR: Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg and other popular destinations in the Kashmir Valley have enough qualities to attract travellers from all parts of the world. But the way people travel these days has changed–the modern traveller is always looking for places that are offbeat and can assure a rather different kind of an experience.
Understanding this trend, the Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to develop new destinations within the state and thus attract more tourists to these places. According to a report by the Economic Times, 14 new places have been earmarked to be developed into tourist destinations.
Toosa Maidan firing range, recently vacated by the army, and the lesser-known Bungus Valley in north Kashmir are two of the places where the government is planning to focus at the moment.
Both of these places would be turned into eco-tourism destinations, where the local population will play a major role in the development of infrastructural facilities for tourists, without causing harm to the environment.
Not only that, the state tourism department is also planning to boost the livelihood of the local residents by providing them the requisite training to host tourists, and eventually provide them the related jobs.
According to the report, they would also be given monetary assistance in order to to redevelop their mud hutments into guest lodges.
Sinthan, Mazmooh, Apple Town Chiniwooder, Dudhal, Shrunz, Mantalai, Bani Basoli, Ranjeet Sagar Dam, Nori Chamb, Seven Lakes Rajouri, Burzuhama, and Khanmoh Fossil Park are the other places that will soon be included in the tourist map.
