SRINAGAR: Akbar Khans achievements on cycling track have started finding takers big with many a people coming forward to help his journey. The latest to join the bandwagon is former chief minister Omar Abdullah.
Omar Monday handed over a professional Merida Reacto 5000 bicycle worth
2.8 lakhs to the athlete, a statement from the National Conference said.
Akbar is the face J&K cycling having represented his state in various national events besides being the only international cyclist from the Valley.
Over the years cycling hasnt seen any major push from the people who matter, but Omars gesture would make Akbar and his associates a happy bunch.
Omar, according to the statement, hoped Akbar keeps bringing laurels for the state in the future.
“Akbar (Khan) has worked hard for reaching to this level. Despite hardships he managed his way into international arena and he deserves all possible support and encouragement,” the statement quoted Omar as saying during a felicitation ceremony at the sportsmans home.
Omar represented Beerwah constituency and Akbar hails from the same area,
Omar expressed hope that Khan would continue to bring laurels to the state and inspire more youngsters to take up athletic sports professionally.
Akbar has won various medals at national events.
