SRINAGAR: Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rehman Veeri today said that Government has formulated a comprehensive plan for better road connectivity across the State.
The Minister said that the Pre-Empowered Committee meeting held at New Delhi has already given go ahead to the road projects of the State sanctioned under PMGSY phase-X, adding that these project would be taken up shortly after completing necessary codal formalities. He said upgrading road infrastructure is pivotal for all-round development of the State.
The Minister was responding to supplementaries raised by some members to the main questions of Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and Rajiv Jasrotia. He said roads awaiting Forest clearances would be taken up on priority, so that work on these roads is completed at an earliest, adding that the macdamization work of the roads targeted during this fiscal by the Government would be also completed.
The Public Works Minister said that Government prioritized development of public utility infrastructure in Srinagar city under various schemes, adding that NABARD funds are only utilized for development of infrastructure in rural areas. He said Rs 30 crore have been already released for construction of Jetty Bridge Baramulla which is of vital importance for the district.
Mr. Veeri said in order to upgrade road connectivity in far off areas of Nobra, several road projects are under active consideration of the Government for approval of funds.
Replying to the question of Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, the Minister said that in order to upgrade road connectivity in Budgam district, the government has submitted four road projects worth Rs 18.80 crore to the Union Ministry of Rural Development for sanction under Phase-X of PMGSY.
He said these road projects include Iatchgam to Arampora, Budgam to Hayatpora, Khomani Chowk to Hakarmullaha and Dandoosa roads, adding that nod for funding of these roads from the Centre would be received shortly.
In reply to another question by Rajiv Jasrotia, the Minister said that three road projects of Kathua constituency under CRF and NABARD worth Rs 34.41 crore were submitted to the Centre for approval of funds and against which one road project worth Rs 4 crore was sanctioned under NABARD.
The Minister informed the House that the Department has recommended 125 schemes involving the road length of 590.55 kms at an estimated cost of Rs 737. 66 crore for Udhampur and Kathua districts to National Rural Development Agency under PMGSY. He said Government hasnt proposed any road project of these twin districts under Bharat Mala.
He further said that the Union Ministry of Transport and Highways has identified four road projects in the length of 235 kms in the State under Bharat Mala.
Muhammad Akbar Lone, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Mubarak Gul, Engineer Abdul Rasheed, Pawan Gupta, Vikar Rasool, Dilden Namgial, Ajaz Ahmad Khan and Raja Manzoor raised supplementaries to the main question and demanded upgradization and macdamization of road connectivity in their respective constituencies.
