Srinagar:- Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rehman Veeri today said development of high-tech fruit mandis in the State is priority for the Government, adding that steps are under way to modernize the existing fruit terminal markets of Sopore, Parimpora and Narwal.
Responding to the supplementaries of some members to the main question of Yawar Ahmad Mir, he said setting up of cold storage facility at major fruit terminals in the State would be taken up under Public-Private Partnership, adding that in this regard, the requisite formalities in some projects have already been completed.
Mr. Veeri said that Government is also contemplating setting up grading and packaging centers in Fruit Mandis for the facilitation of growers.
He said that to explore better marketing of dry fruits, the Government would also establish a multi-dry fruit Mandi at Lethpora, Pampore, adding that in this regard 25 kanals of land have been already identified.
The Minister said that a truck terminal and Cold Storage would be also established at Baghi-Sundari near Sopore Fruit Mandi. He said in this regard the Department is in process of formulation of Detailed Project Report.
He said 40 kanals of land have been already acquired for establishment of Khansahab Fruit Mandi in Budgam, adding that construction works at the site would be taken up this fiscal.
Replying to the main question of Yawar Ahmad Mir, the Minister said that Fruit and Vegetable terminal market Sopore is biggest Fruit Market of the State. He said efforts are on to upgrade infrastructure facilities at the Mandi, adding that, so far, 14 auction platforms, drinking water facility, parking yard, electrification, three toilet blocks, weight bridge, high mass lights besides guest house like facilities have been created in the Mandi.
Mr. Veeri said that the work on additional auction platform, administrative block, toll plaza-entry-type gate and underground electric cabling is in progress inside the Mandi premises. He said 60 percent macdamization and 70 percent construction works of the Mandi have been completed and added that rest of the work would be completed in time bound manner.
In reply to another question of Muhammad Khalil Bandh, the Minister said that fruit and vegetable market has been already established at Prichoo, Pulwama which is catering to the requirements of fresh/dry fruit growers of the district. He said besides 50 kanls of additional land is under process of acquisition for which an amount of Rs 3. 50 crore has been placed at the disposal of Collector Land Acquisition Pulwama, where some shops sites would be reserved for dry fruit growers and traders.
