Srinagar:- Expressing concern over hike of airfare in the flights to Kashmir, Minister for Consumer Affairs, Public Distribution Department and Legal Metrology Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali has approached Union Minister for Civil Aviation
Government of India, Ashok Gajapathi Raju in black and white and demanded to keep the airfare reasonable so that it donot affect tourist influx to Kashmir during summer season.
Zulfkar brought into the notice of Union Minister that during past few years during Summer, airlines both Government and Private arbitrarily hike the air fares in these sectors thereby badly impacting the consumers intending to travel in these sectors. He said that the season is the peak tourism season of the State and there is need to pave way for tourists to smoothly visit Valley. He said that the rates charged are generally on the higher side and shoot up irrationally during Summer season. Expressing serious concern of it, Zulfkar said that high air fare rates gives a jolt to the intending passengers as they get discouraged to travel by air on these sectors and take alternative travel modes.
The Minister requested Ashok Gajapathi Raju to personally intervene in the matter and advise the concerned officers to keep the air fare rates reasonable on these sectors which will go a long way to encourage more and more to undertake their journey by air on these sectors.
On the other hand Minister appreciated the Ministry of Civil Aviation and said that the Ministry is playing in the movement of people to foreign destinations as also in trafficking the domestic passengers within the Country. He said that Ministry of Civil Aviation is also doing a gigantic task in ferrying the passengers to various destinations and movement of passengers from Mumbai-Srinagar, Delhi-Srinagar and Jammu-Srinagar and vice versa is an important job being done by the Ministry which in turn gives a boosts tourism and gives a flip to the economy of the State.
However Minister said that since Summer season is peak tourism season in Kashmir and Union Government must contribute and advise Aviation Industry to slash rates to flights of Kashmir and give a flip to the tourism potential. He said that this will help a long way ahead to boost economy of the state as it will surely increase tourist influx.
The Minister has also called upon people of other states of India to come and enjoy natural beauty and pleasant weather of Kashmir. He said that their is need to strengthen tourist traffic in the Valley which will symbiotically help the people of Kashmir and Aviation industry.
