Srinagar: Following the post Friday protest call given jointly by the separatists, people at various places staged demonstration against the government proposals including Sainik, Pandit colonies and new industrial policies.
As soon as the Friday congregation ended in Gow Kadal Masjid, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) activists marched from Maqbool Manzil, Maisuma towards commercial hub Lal Chowk.
The protesters while holding banners were chanting anti-government and anti-India slogans.
The protesters tried to take out a protest march against the proposed separate settlements for ex-army officers and Pandits in Kashmir on a joint call of separatist leaders.
Nonetheless, as soon as the procession led by Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, younger brother of JKLF founder Muhammad Maqbool Bhat reached Budshah Chowk, a heavy contingent of police and paramilitary CRPF swung into action and detained dozens of the activists.
In Hyderpora, Hurriyat (G) activists and several leaders took out a rally after Friday prayers from Jamia Majid and marched towards Airport road.
The protesters raised anti-government slogans and pro-freedom slogans.
Hurriyat (G) leader told KNS that they took out a march from Jamia Masjid Hyderpora and ended their peaceful protest at Airport road.
Hurriyat (M) activists also staged protest against they what they termed as controversial statement at outside the historical Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
According to reports, as soon as the Friday congregation ended in historic Jamia Masjid, the protesters led by Ghulam Nabi Zaki and Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi raised slogans against the government and termed the establishing of Sainik Colonies, new industrial policy as a conspiracy to dilute the special status of the state.
In Handwara Jamia Masjid, Molvi Manzoor Ahmad Kirmani while addressing people during the Friday congregation said that they wont allow establishing of Sainik colonies and others government plans successful in the state. We will fight against such plans of the government, he said.
In Palhallan area of north Kashmirs Baramulla district, the protesters took to streets and were chanting slogans against the government.
Reports said that clashes erupted between youth and forces in the area after the youth took to streets to protest against establishing of Sainik and Pandit colonies, implementation of new industrial policy, adding forces resorted to tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.
Pertinently, a joint call of shut down and peaceful protests after Friday across Jammu and Kashmir was given by both the factions of Hurriyat and JKLF. (KNS)
