SRINAGAR: Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar today called for starting a movement for revival of culture from schools and colleges.
Inaugurating a Mehfil-e-Mausiqi at Womens College M A Road, the Minister said that educational institutes can play a vital role in reviving cultural activities that have remained dormant during the last few years. Now is the time to take a lead in organizing events and teaching students the rich culture of Kashmir, said Akhter. Our educational institutes should make revival of culture their main motive.
The Minister said that mere academic certificates wont be able to produce successful personalities unless ethos of culture and traditions are imbibed in them.
While welcoming eminent Kashmiri Sufi Vocalist and Composer Dhananjay Koul, the Minister said that it is high time that we take steps to bridge the gap between various communities of Kashmir. Koul performed at the auditorium of Womens College after a gap of 25 years. I feel that migration of Kashmiri Pandits was unfortunate and Kashmiri society is incomplete without them, said Akhter. He said that government is committed to bring back the Pandits in a respectable way.
He proposed holding of a cultural festival wherein Kashmiri artists from outside would be brought and felicitated. I believe it will have a huge impact far better than endless TV discussions, said Akhter.
Minister of Rural Development Abdul Haq, Director Education and other officers were also present on the occasion. (PTK)
