PATTAN: Government decision to shift sub district hospital to the newly constructed Trauma Hospital building has been hailed by the residents of the highway township.
New building constructed on modern lines has cost approximately seventy crore rupees while existing one lacks space and is located in a congested area.
However certain sections are using influence to retain the sub-district hospital in the old dilapidated building.
“The newly constructed hospital building is equipped with the latest machinery and is located in the area which is free from traffic mess and noise pollution”, said Ghulam Hassan Mir, a local trader.
He alleged that few chemists who have a vested interest as they run their shops in the vicinity of the old hospital building are creating hurdles in shifting of the hospital to the new location.
The old building is located in an area which sees frequent traffic jams and there is gridlock always in front of the main gate of the hospital causing lot of inconvenience to the patients, said Muhammad Yusuf Rathar an attendant there.
Staff and doctors at the hospital too are keen to relocate to new building as they alleged that there is lot of pressure on authorities by the ‘drug mafia’ to retain the hospital in the current location.
On Thursday when MOS Health Asseya Naqash visited the area she was mobbed by these people demanding that hospital be retained in the old building.
Condemning these ‘selfish’ traders, residents have appealed the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti not to pay heed to these elements and order shifting of the hospital to the newly constructed building so that the long pending demand of the area is met.
