Geelani condemns continuous arrest of pro-freedom leaders

Srinagar: While strongly condemning the continuous imprisonment of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Mir Hafizullah despite the court orders of his release, Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani expressed his deep concern over the reports that interference of the local pro-Indian politicians are preventing his release and police is blindly extending his illegal detention.

While demanding immediate release of all the political prisoners including Masarat Alam Bhat, Ameer Hamzah Shah, Mohammad Yousuf Lone, Manzoor Ahmad, Mohammad Amin Parray, Nasir Abdullah, Hakeem Showkat, Assadullah Parray, Mehraj-ud-din Nanda and Zubair Ahmad Turray, Geelani sahab said that the new chapter of BJP-PDP coalition government had broken all the previous records of banning the freedom of expression and the state is practically passing through the martial law like situations.

In a statement to CNS, the state high court had quashed the PSA of Mir Hafizullah some 15 days back and had issued his release orders but immediately after his release from the Srinagar central jail he was again arrested by the police who took him to CIK Srinagar and then shifted him to the Mattan police station where from he is not being released. According to the reports received by the Hurriyat Conference, a local pro-Indian politician of the ruling party in Islamabad is preventing the release of Mir Hafizullah sahab and he is pressurizing the police to invoke another PSA against him. While expressing his deep concern over this, Geelani Sahab said that it is sheer political vengeance and the police are illegally detaining Mir Hafizullah sahab over the political pressure. (CNS)
