SRINAGAR: Police on Wednesday resorted to cane-charging as protesting youth at Peer Bagh Srinagar came out in large numbers demanding forensic report with regard to the murder of a youth be made public.
Owais Bashir Malik, an engineering student, was found dead near Peerbagh railway track on January 14 this year.
On January 19, senior police officers in a press conference claimed that Owais had died in a scuffle with a youngster who he had befriended him on the Facebook. Police had arrested Ishan Majeed who hails from Bandipora district along with the three railway police constables in the case.
According to the eyewitnesses, scores of protesters including the family members of the slain youth appeared on road and tried to block the traffic. The protesters alleged that Police are not serious in solving the case and is resorting to dilly-dallying tactics. They demanded that forensic report should be made public and the matter should be probed by an independent agency.
The family members claimed that doctors of Government Medical College Srinagar have forwarded the forensic report to police but still the police have not given them a copy. Police are trying to shield the real culprits, who are very influential. My son has not been murdered by a single person but there others are also involved in it, the father of the slain youth said.
Will reinvestigate case: Police
Hours after family of Peerbagh murdered youth held a protest here, the Police said that if the family has any doubts on investigation it will reinvestigate the case.
SP Budgam Fayaz Ahmad Lone told KNS that it seems that the family of the murdered youth is not satisfied with the probe so they held a protest today.
But I assured them that police will reinvestigate the case if they have any doubts on earlier investigation SP said.
The family and locals Tuesday protested at Pirbagh, claiming that the forensic report has questioned the police probe.
