Srinagar: In reaction to the reports that Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is planning to construct staff quarters near one of its laboratories located in Gulmarg and has even invited bids for it, Chief Executive Officer Gulmarg Development Authority Friday made it clear that they have not permitted BARC to go for any construction in Ski resort in wake of court directions that has banned all sort of construction in Gulmarg.
CEO Gulmarg Development Authority Nazir Ahmed Mir told CNS that BARC has come up with a misleading advertisement and he fails to understand how come they publish it.
BARC recently published an e-tender notice in a Srinagar-based daily inviting “techno-commercial and financial bids” for the “construction of staff quarters at HARL (High Altitude Research Laboratory) in Gulmarg”.
Terming the advertisement misleading, Nazir Ahmed Mir said that since 2012, court has put a blanket ban on all kind of construction work in Gulmarg. Not speaking of construction work, even minor repair works are not allowed. We want to clear it that we have not permitted Bhaba Atomic Research Centre to go for any kind of construction, he said.
Mir added that there is a distinct Master Plan for Gulmarg and even for minor renovation; one has to approach the court only after nod is given by a standing committee. Law is applicable to all and one cant violate the court orders, he said.
Pertinently, the court has directed the state government to stop all the construction activities at Gulmarg in wake of unregulated construction of hotels, shops and restaurants.(CNS)
