Srinagar: A historic, revolutionary and miraculous event of Lailat al-Meraj or Shab-e-Meraj (The Night of Ascension) was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety across entire South Asia including Jammu Kashmir.
In this connection, a prestigious and important Majlis organized by the Anjuman-e-Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar was held at Aali Masjid Eidgah in Srinagar after the Maghrib (evening) prayers upto the Isha (late evening) prayers.
In the Majlis-e-Waiz-e-Tableeg (Sermon and Propagation meeting), which was attended by thousands of men and women, particularly the youth, listed to the address of the Jammu Kashmir Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema chief, Mirwaiz Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq in which he laid emphasis on the Falsafa-e-Meraj (The Philosophy of Meraj), Azeemat-e-Meraj (The Significance of Meraj), Maqasad-e-Meraj (TheUtility of Meraj) and Paigam-e-Meraj (The Message of Meraj) and delved in detail about the different facets of Meraj-ul-Alam.
On the occasion of the Meraj-ul-Alam (The Night of Ascension), the Mirwaiz, while extending his heart-felt greetings to the Muslim Ummah in general and Kashmiris in particular, said 1437 years back, the Last Prophet of Humanity, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) started the Isra and Meraj, the two parts of his Night Journey from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa where he led other prophets in prayer and then ascended to the Heaven in the Me’raj journey where he spoke to Allah.
The Mirwaiz said the historic, revolutionary and miraculous event of Shab-e-Meraj in reality had started the journey of human beings toward enlightenment and emancipation.
He said research and investigation were carried throughout the world about this Night Journey of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on the historic event of Shab-e-Meraj, leading the modern man toward his journeys to moon, stars and toward enlightenment.
Stressing that in the Shab-e-Meraj, there were lessons to be taken and a message of reform to be spread, the Mirwiaz said it also drives home the point about the need for research, investigation and about inviting people toward the true messages of Islam about peace and justice and about helping the people affected by injustices.
He said Meraj-ul-Alam was a historic event, which would be observed until the Day of Judgement and people with different views and opinions would continue to benefit from its message.
On the occasion, the Mirwaiz prayed to the Almighty Allah to enlighten the Muslims about the true message and philosophy of Meraj-ul-Alam and help them to implement it in letter and spirit and prayed for the freedom of Kashmiris and help them unshackle the chains they had been enslaved in for fighting for their just rights.
Expressing deep concern over the deterioration coming in the Kashmiri society, he delved on how people were drifting from religion, remaining ignorant about the true message and teachings of Islam, falling victims to waywardness, religious conversions, drug addiction, and promotion of non-religious activities under the shade of religion.
Appealing the entire Kashmiri society to wake up to the evils they were getting caught in, the Mirwaiz called upon the dignified individuals of every locality, intellectuals, teachers, social and religious activists to come forward for helping the new Kashmiri generation from falling victim to these evils.
