Srinagar: Officials probing the alleged misappropriation of 45,000 quintals of rice in central Kashmirs Budgam district have come under the scanner for delaying the investigation and favouring accused employees.
Earlier official sources said the government has taken a serious note over the reports that allocation of additional 13200 quintals of rice under 2011 census meant for the public distribution in district Budgam for the month of January has gone missing.
The Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department hold a departmental enquiry into the alleged ration scam. It has come to our notice that people had not received ration in January. Now we are going to conduct the probe into the incident, Said Director CAPD Kashmir Mushtaq Ahmad Shah. After which the case may also be referred to the Crime Branch for further investigation.
It has been reported that 32400 quintals of ration under normal quota and 13200 quintals extra rice as per the census 2011 was allotted to district Budgam for public distribution from FCI Godown Budgam. But no ration was provided to the general public nor is available in any Godown of CAPD Budgam and has gone missing, a media report quoted.
The residents of Charisharif, Chadoora, Dooru, Chakle Khan, Seban, Reshipora and various other areas as per the reports had not receive any ration in the month of January and February. They had alleged that CAPD officials in Budgam were selling the food grains in black market and not distributing it among the deserving consumers.
However the enquiry committee appointed by Director CAPD has failed to submit the report despite a month has passed.
This is not the first time when the alleged ration scam has surfaced in district Budgam. Earlier in 2014, around 3000 quintals of rice went missing from a granary in Chadoora area of Budgam district and the Department failed to any report. During the September 2014 floods, over 10,000 quintals of rice meant for flood relief were missing. After which the Assistant Director Budgam was placed under suspension under order No DCAPD/PS/2014/G-dated September 9, 2014 and was attached to the directorate of CAPD. To the Surprise the tainted Assistant Director who was suspended was reinstated under no71-CAPD of 2014 dated 16-10-2014, back at his previous place of posting in Budgam with the help of higher Babus.
