Kupwara: Hundreds of mourners Friday participated in the last rites of an unidentified militant whose dead body was found near a graveyard in Kanthapora village of frontier district Kupwara.
According to the locals, they found a bullet ridden body of a youth near grave yard whom police later identified as a militant. The militant had been injured in Kanthapora when government forces fired upon him during a search and cordon operation.
Mourners shouted pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans. Hundreds of people participated in his last rites and he was laid to rest in Kanthapora grave yard.
The protesters clashed with police while government forces used tear smoke shells to disperse them. Two civilians who were injured during the clashes have been identified as Amir Ahmed Bhat and Ashiq Hussain Bhat, both residents of Potushi Kupwara.
