Srinagar:The Srinagar Auto rickshaw union Saturday launched indefinite strike till per-kilometre tariff of the meters is increased.
The passengers especially patients had to face tremendous hardships as the auto rickshaw union observed complete strike to protest against the decision of authorities to make standardized meters mandatory in three wheelers.
Pertinently, district administration along with Traffic police and Regional Transport Office (RTO) Wednesday decided to make calibrated meters in auto rickshaws mandatory failing which action would be taken against the erring drivers.
The auto rickshaw union of Srinagar observed complete strike to mark a protest against the authorities and demanded that per kilometre rates of the calibrated meter be increased from prevailing Rs 17 per kilometre before making meter’s mandatory.
According to locals, they are facing immense hardships with the non-availability of auto rickshaws in Srinagar especially in City areas. The authorities should take a decision over the matter of auto rickshaw drivers soon or should allow matadors in the interiors of City so that the sufferings of people would end as well, he said.
Meanwhile SSP traffic city, Maqsood-ul-Zaman told KNS that they are doing their job and will continue to do it. It is up to transport officials to look into the demands of auto rickshaw drivers, he said.
