Srinagar: Police has booked a doctor in SMHS for attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy after an attendant of a patient complained to them against a doctor for allegedly removing oxygen mask and drip-set from the body of the patient in a ward.
Sensing gravity of the situation, the Government Medical College Principal Dr Kaisar Ahmad has formed a high level team of professionals to investigate the whole issue. And police has registered an FIR into the matter.
A patient was operated by a doctor for removing hernia in emergency ward and then she was admitted to Ward 11 for further care.
But another doctor came to the ward (on the behest of another doctor) and had remove oxygen mask, drip-set from the patient, and also attempted to take away the medical file, the attendant has complained to the police.
Police said that the incident has apparently happened because of the rivalry between the two doctors.
Hospital sources said that the two doctors had scuffle a week ago and todays incident seems related to that. SHO Karan Nagar Parvaiz Ahmad told KNS that an FIR no 16 under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) against the doctor after recording the statement of the attendant.
Dr Kaisar told KNS that the administration has taken cognizance of the grave issue on their own though they have not received any complaint from the attendant.
We have set up a high level committee on our own to investigate the issue and find the facts, Dr Kaisar said.
The internal inquiry team comprises of Administrator Associated hospitals, Rifat Arif, heads of departments of medicine, surgery, a professor of anesthesia. We dont want to take chance as it is a grave allegation, the principal said.
Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan, DAK president has condemned the unfortunate incident. People have already lost their trust with the doctors, and such incidents firm their belief that doctors do not do the service they are employed for. Such doctors need to be thrown out the noble profession of medicine, he said. (KNS)
