SRINAGAR: In view of weather forecast issued by Meteorological Department, regarding rain fall, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmed Lone convened a meeting today to review the arrangements/ preparedness with regard to dewatering from water logged areas. Senior officers from Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Public Works, PDD, Irrigation and Flood Control, PHE, Fire and emergency services, UEED, Drainage were present in the meeting.
It was informed that the Departments are ready to meet with any eventuality, besides they have kept standby men and machinery for dewatering in case of heavy rain fall. The meeting was further informed that all these departments have established Control Rooms for the convenience of general public in case of any excigency. Superintending Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control Department informed that they have sufficient number of sand bags at various places to be used in case of any emergency.
The Deputy Commissioner, directed all the Departments to ensure timely dewatering from the main roads, lanes/drains and also from the roads leading to important installations in the Srinagar City. He directed the PDD authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply so that dewatering does not happen. He also directed Srinagar Municipal Corporation to install additional dewatering pumps in water logging prone areas of the city. Fire and Emergency Services Department was directed to keep close liaison with SMC for dewatering in water logged areas wherever required.
