Srinagar: Condemning the use of force and harassment unleashed on the devotees who had come to offer Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, shopkeepers adjoining the Masjid and residents living in the adjoining areas, Hurriyat Conference (M)Saturday termed the massive presence of government forces as completely unjustified and undesirable.
Stressing that people coming to offer Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid, Srinagar were subjected to terror and harassment by government forces, an Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesman in a statement to KNS said people feel intimidated with the massive presence of forces in the area.
The spokesperson said use of force and indiscriminate firing of pellets and tear smoke shells on the Nimazis was a deliberate attempt of the state administration to damage the centrality and significance of the historic Jamia Masjid.
He said Hurriyat had time and again stressed that the state administration should abstain from creating problems with the massive deployment of forces in the area but the administration seems bent upon creating more problems for the people and traders living in the vicinity besides the Nimazis coming to offer prayers at the historic Masjid.
Terming the shutdown call of the traders to protest against the administration as right and legitimate, the spokesperson said when atrocities cross the limits, then protest becomes the only option for the subjugated people.
Assuring that Hurriyat amalgam is the custodian of innumerous sacrifices that people offered over the years for Kashmir cause, the Hurriyat leaders said these sacrifices were the real assets of the ongoing resistance movement and that the conglomerate would make all possible efforts to resolve the Kashmir issue as per the wishes and aspiration of the people of Kashmir.
Hurriyat (M) also expressed solidarity with the traders and shopkeepers of Goni Khan Market whose shops were gutted in a devastating massive fire.
The spokesman has called for immediate relief and compensation to the fire victims. (KNS)
