Pattan: Police Friday claimed that it arrested the kingpin of the fake marriage racket along with his accomplice and recovered cash and gold from him whom he had obtained from innocent people through deceit and fraud.
Earlier police had arrested six persons including four women of the same gang.
A police official told CNS that a police team from Pattan Police Station nabbed the kingpin from Tangmarg area of North Kashmirs Baramulla district. He identified the kingpin as Amin Wani son of Ghulam Nabi a resident of Kharnipora Tangmarg. His accomplice Raool Lone of Khargam Tangamarg was also apprehended and both were produced before Sub-Judge Pattan who remanded them to police for three days, the police official said.
Pertinently, the imposters running fake marriage racket in North Kashmir used to approach prospect grooms as middle men/woman and fix their wedding with a woman, also a part of the gang. After the marriage, the impostor wife and her makeshift family used to run away with gold ornaments and cash, which they received from grooms family as part of the marriage ceremony. Besides the kingpin and his accomplice police have so far arrested six persons including four women who hail from Trikolbal Pattan. They are Latif Pandit, his wife Amina Begum, Latif Wagay, his wife Atiqa Begum, Shamima Begum and Atiqa Bano. (CNS)
