Legislator hails Andhra PM for his Kashmir remarks

Srinagar: Legislator Engineer Rasheed Thursday hailed member parliament Lok-Sabha Tirupati Varaprasad Rao of YSR Congress for raising his voice to give people of J&K right to self-determination and said that the JK MPs and MLAs should understand that speaking truth doesn’t mean sedition or anti-nationalism.

Er Rasheed also appreciated BJP MP Anurag Thakur for saying that Kashmir dispute is creation of India’s first PM Jawahar Lal Nehru. Addressing a press conference in Srinagar today Er Rasheed said, “Whosoever speaks for suppressed people should be welcomed and what the two MPs have said needs to be applauded. Tirupati has shown the mirror to Indian Parliamentarians and exposed the injustices being done to Kashmiris under the cover of so called nationalism. It is high time for all those who matter to understand that the only solution to any political dispute has to be found by fulfilling basics of justice. What Anurag Thakur has said is the same story, I have been narrating in and outside Assembly for last seven years. However BJP and others need to keep in mind that Nehru was not Congress’s Prime Minister but was representing country and his commitment made with the people of J&K needs to be fulfilled for restoring India’s own honor and dignity among the nations.”

Er Rasheed told in the press conference that he has met the Governor on 22nd of February and asked him that his movement is being strictly restricted to his residence, only for the fact that he speaks for the people and for the resolution of Kashmir issue. Er Rasheed read the contents of the letter given to Governor during his meet with him, which read, “It is obvious and beyond doubt that I am not being allowed to discharge my duties as a legislature, as such it is humbly requested that either my free movement be ensured or this letter be treated as my resignation from the State Assembly.”

Er Rasheed added that speaking in favor of Afzal Guru is not a crime and former Home Minister Mr. Chidambaram’s revelations in response to questions put to him by Economic Times,  that Afzal Guru’s role in the Parliament attack was doubtful and even if he would have been involved in the attack, quantum of involvement didn’t justify the hanging, should shut mouth of those who are running their retail shops in the name of nationalism. He said that I asked Governor that we don’t seek resolution to Kashmir dispute on communal lines but only in light of the historic perspective. 

He narrated that how he was not allowed to even have a single meeting in Jammu province and how he was attacked by BJP goons in Bamla Sunderbani and Akhnoor. Er Rasheed said, “BJP is targeting the local ASP only for the reason that he is a Dallit and it is unacceptable. It is for the police to answer that the serious allegations leveled by Ravindar Raina including accusing top police officials of being ISI and Pakistani agents to which extent are true. However I thank the people of Nowshera who cutting across religious affiliations condemned the attack and also have tendered an invitation to me to attend a function to be organized to pay tributes to Baba Sahib Ambedkar.” Er Rasheed also released copy of a memorandum submitted by Advocate Surendar Singh Bharti Thakur to Governor on behalf of prominent citizens and secular forces of Chenab Valley condemning the Bamla attack and their demand seeking stern action against these goons.

 Er Rasheed released video footage of the incident and also a video which shows how senior BJP leader and MLA Nowshera Mr. Ravendra Raina is threatening to kill Er Rasheed. He said, “If Pulwama police could lodge an FIR against me without a reason, what police has to say about Ravindar Raina’s threats and not naming any goon in the FIR who attacked us at Bamla. Double standards of police stand badly exposed and not only that Jammu police is in complete coordination with BJP and its goons but has made life of Muslims hell everywhere at the hands of these communal forces. Not only Muslims but Dallits are also being given a worst treatment and treated as second class citizens in Jammu. Police restricted my movement in the name of providing security and didn’t allow me to visit anywhere. Whatever is happening in Jammu region seems to be a warm up to repeat 1947 massacre but let the Small chunk of communal forces of Sang Parivar understand that it is not so easy to do and right thinking person’s of all communities will defeat their nefarious designs.”

Er Rasheed further appreciated the statement of Umar Abdullah asking New Delhi to restore conditional instrument of accession but added that J&K issue will still remain unresolved. (CNS)
