Srinagar: Once again appealing people of Kashmir to keep aloof themselves any kind of violence, senior separatist leader Professor Abdul Gani Bhat Thursday said that the solution of Kashmir issue lies in peaceful atmosphere in dialogue. Talking to reports shortly after organizing a protest rally against prevailing rights abuses in Kashmir at Rajbagh, Bhat condemned the continuous house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq asked Government of India to create a conducive atmosphere for talks and dialogue. The tactics you (New Delhi) are adopting will lead us nowhere. You should create such an atmosphere that long pending Kashmir issue could be resolved. By shrinking political space, crippling the movement of leaders and people and frequently arresting separatist leaders is not going to help. Kashmir is an issue and it needs to be resolved. It is not only a threat to the peace in India and Pakistan but to the whole subcontinent, Bhat said.
Earlier during his speech at the seminar that had been organized by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led Hurriyat Conference, Bhat said even former Home Minister of India is now claiming that injustice was done to Kashmiri youth Muhammad Afzal Guroo. He was referring to the remarks made by former Finance and Home Minister of India P.Chidambaram wherein he said that Afzals hanging wasnt a correct decision. I think it is possible to hold an honest opinion that the Afzal Guru case was perhaps not correctly decided, Chidambaram said in an interview.
Bhat said that India has created an atmosphere of uncertainty in Kashmir. Random arrests, frequent house arrest of leadership, rights abuses have become a common phenomena in Kashmir. Today we had organized a seminar and our Chairman was put under house arrest. What is this? They (New Delhi) are scared of even peaceful discourse and I am afraid if India continues to follow such policies, it will have to pay a huge price, he said. (CNS)
