The state police chief K Ranjendra Kumar on Monday said the three militants killed in the Pampore encounter had with the deliberate attempt chosen the EDI building to cause damage to the security forces.
Director General Police (DGP) said it is yet to be ascertained that whether the Pampore attack was a fidayeen attack as the security grid is taking stock of the aftermath.
Six people, including two captains and a soldier of Para 9, two paramilitary troopers of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and a civilian had earlier died in the gunfight.
The 48-hour-long Pampore encounter ended on Monday afternoon with the death of three militants.
The state police chief said no local militant killed in the encounter has been identified and that initial findings have revealed that all the three slain militants were non- locals.
The DGP said that though the militants had deliberately chosen the EDI building to carry out attacks upon the forces, it has yet not came to fore that whether the Pampore episode was the Fidayeen attack.
