Anantnag:- Residents of Karigama Anantnag staged a protest against PDD (Power Development Department) for failing to install transformer in the locality.
Residents claimed that they are without the transformer from the last two months. The agitating residents raised slogans against the PDD for failing to install the transformer.
Residents of Karigama early in the morning assembled and blocked road and which resulted into massive traffic jam in the area. The traffic jam created problems for commuters. It lasted for one and half hour. Later traffic resumed after police intervened.
Tawsif Ahmad, a resident said, despite paying electricity bills on time we dont have transformer in the locality from last two months.
He said, We have to go to far-off places to charge our mobile phones. We are unable to charge other gadgets. We visited the office of PDD department. But nothing was done on ground officials. They never listened to us. They demand money for the transformer. He further said that our transformer, which had developed a technical snag two months ago, was taken by the officials of PDD for repairing. However, the officials failed to repair and install it. But now the residents of karigama demanded PDD department should install the transformer as soon as possible in the area. A student among the protesters said, during exam time we students studied in the candle light. Non-availability of electricity has also affected education of our children and our children cannot study properly during night time, said a parent Abdul Qayoom. Meanwhile we contacted to PDD chief engineer but his phone was switched off.
