New Delhi: The BJP and Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP are likely to resume talks to end the political stalemate and form a government in Jammu and Kashmir, sources said Monday.
BJP sources told Indian news channel, CNN-IBN that the party is now ready to listen to Mehbooba Mufti’s concerns but can’t yield beyond a point.
BJP wants to end the political stalemate but can’t yield beyond a point, sources say
The BJP wants Mehbooba to acknowledge that it had to “reconcile to politically adversarial ideology” in allying with the PDP.
The party is hoping that a final decision will be reached before the Parliament session starting February 23.
This comes three days after the PDP chief hardened her stance and indicated that she will not form a coalition government with the BJP unless the Centre creates a “conducive atmosphere” by committing confidence building measures (CBMs) for the state.
J&K has been under Governor’s Rule since January 8, a day after the demise of Mehbooba’s father and the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
PDP, with 27 MLAs in the 87-member Assembly and BJP with 25 legislators, ran a coalition government headed by Sayeed for 10 months before his death.
Last week both the parties were invited separately by Governor NN Vohra in an effort to end political uncertainty.
At the meeting, the BJP asked for ten more days while Mehbooba said the state needed a “good atmosphere, space and a fillip” if a new government was to be formed.
