Deploy Sufficient Police To Area For Winter
Srinagar – Describing the ensuing winter in the far off area as extremely tense, the Zanskar Muslim Association Tuesday urged the National Conference-led government to retain the recently-deployed police contingent there for six months. It accused the local Budhists of committing sacrilege of holy Quran.
With the deployment of 150 police personnel from Kashmir to the tense Zanskar area, a sense of security has returned to some extent to the minority Muslim community. But there is need to keep the contingent posted in the area for the ensuing winter months to ensure peace, the Association chief, Fayyaz Ahmad Wani, said.
Recalling the events on 23rd of this month, Wani alleged the communal elements attacked Muslim houses, desecrated the holy Quran and took away two of its copies. He said the area remains cut off and inaccessible during winter months. He has written a detail letter to the minister of state for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, demanding deployment of Kashmir police at PP Teng, Phu Thang Gumpa, Santi ad Krasha areas of Zanskar to prevent any possible communal processions towards Padam.
Meanwhile, Huriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, has expressed deep concern over what he termed as continued preplanned violence against minority Muslim community in Zanaskar (Kargil) and blasphemy in Kishtwar area.
In a statement, Hurriyat Confrence (G) spokesman, Ayyaz Akbar, quoted Geelani said that due to the criminal silence of the government and its deliberate cover to miscreants in J&K, the situation was tense and alarming. He asked the government to punish the culprits and take stern action against those bent upon creating sectarian conflict in the valley.
The administration should take measures to protect the life and property of Muslims in Zanaskar. Indian authorities and its agencies are bent upon creating a wedge among the freedom loving groups and has planned to sabotage the on-going movement. They want to dilute the core issue with that of sectarian violence, Ayyaz said quoting Geelani.
Syed Geelani has expressed his anxiety over the fact that certain sectarian elements have made Jammu their base, he said adding that it was a common sight to see outsiders in the garb of religious preachers in temples of Jammu. The information is pouring in that they have assembled and piled up arms and ammunition in religious places, Ayyaz Akbar said, quoting Geelani.
In a separate statement, Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesman accused the government of failure to protect the lives and properties of minority Muslim community in Zanskar area of Kargil district. He said a sense of insecurity had gripped the Muslims of the area. He said the Zanskar Muslims should not feel helpless as the entire Muslim community of Jammu and Kashmir was at their back. (KNS)
