BUDGAM, JANUARY 30: In order to generate employment avenues for unemployed educated youth, about 865 youth in Budgam district have been covered under Centrally Sponsored Prime Ministers Employment Guarantee Programme (PMEGP) during the last two years.
Under the employment programme the loan assistance up to Rs. 25 lakh with handsome component of subsidy is being provided to the youth to set up thier micro income generating units.
In this connection, a meeting was held today by District Development Commissioner Budgam, Mir Altaf Ahmad to review the performance of the District Industries Centre. It was given out that Rs. 1.41 crores have been provided as subsidy so far among beneficiaries for setting up of their micro enterprises. It was further informed that 131 loan cases of the unemployed youth have been sponsored by the District Level Task Force, which is headed by the District Development Commissioner to various financial institutions for advancement of the loan during the last two years.
The DDC called for launching wide publicity and awareness campaign among the educated youth of the district about the benefits of PMEGP. He said that PMEGP is a flagship credit- linked subsidy programme for income and employment generation in rural as well as urban areas and need of the hour was to make youth aware about the programme to provide them better employment avenues for their dignified livelihood.
