Pahalgam: The 67th Independence Day was celebrated in Pahalgam first time with fervour and enthusiasm with active participation from civil administration, security forces and students of Government schools.
The SDM Pahalgam, Nisar Hussain Nisar, unfurled the National Flag at the main function held at Pahalgam helipad area. The SDM took salute at the march past of well decorated contingents of J&K Police, CRPF, Fire & Emergency and school children wearing colourful uniforms. Addressing the largely attended gathering, the SDM highlighted the sacrifices of freedom fighters and said the great leaders laid down their lives fighting against British oppression and envisioned India as an independent secular and strong nation. Real tribute to these martyrs would be to follow the path shown by them and to contribute our bit towards nation.
On the occasion, series of variety programmes were presented by children of various schools depicting the centuries old brotherhood and composite cultural ethos of state.
The SDM Pahalgam also distributed awards and prizes among the students, who presented colourful cultural programmes and received applause from audience who were present in the occasion. He also thanks to departments who were present there and participate the programme, the arrangements like sitting and eating was also good in the said occasion.
